The Pieta Statue portrays the moment Jesus was taken down from the cross. The lifeless body of Jesus now lies in Mary's arms. Located in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, the statue is the first of the artist's sculptures with the same theme. It was made at the request of the French cardinal Jean de Billheres.
