Reddit Place Polar Tv Blanket

Designed by Josh Wardle, the Place project was a collaborative social experiment that debuted on the social networking site Reddit in April 2017 and was repeated in April 2022.

The 2017 experiment involved an online canvas on a subreddit called r/place, where registered users could edit the canvas by changing the color of a single pixel rather than a 16-color palette. After each pixel was placed, a timer prevented the user from placing any more pixels for a period ranging from 5 to 20 minutes. The experiment was terminated by Reddit administrators on April 3, 2017, approximately 72 hours after it was created. In just 72 hours, more than 1 million users had edited the canvas, placing a total of approximately 16 million pixels, and by the time the trial ended, more than 90,000 users had been tested. At the end of the event, where Turkish users participated wonderfully with the Turkish Flag and Ataturk visual, a wonderful work was created.

It was announced that Place will be rebooted on March 28, 2022. It began on April 1, 2022 and lasted four days, including two expansions of the canvas to allow for more space. The color palette was also expanded on the second and third days. Unlike 2017, individual subreddits immediately began to coordinate in designing pixel art, and large communities were formed on Discord and Twitch in attempts to expand existing art, replace defaced pixels, and overlay new images over existing ones. As of April 3, approximately 72 million pixels have been placed by more than 6 million users, at a rate of more than 2.5 million pixels per hour. There was also a sixfold increase in the number of users on Reddit between the two experiments, including a 4.5x increase in pixels deployed. Finally, in the 2022 Place event, users were limited to placing only white pixels. The entire canvas was gradually filled with white space and returned to its original empty state.
